So Excited!!

Here's a fabulous story about when Facebook actually has ads that pertain to me! Jake Shimabukuro is coming to Tucson on February 9th, just two short weeks away!! Jake is an unbelievable musician that makes amazing music with the ukulele. I fell completely in love with him when a friend sent me a youtube video of him playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps in Central Park several years ago. We incorporated his song from the touching movie Hula Girls called Wish on my Star into our wedding by dancing our first dance to the instrumental version.

I'm not a big concert goer. I've been to a handful of concerts in my life: Janet Jackson, a variety of classical pianists, and a big concert where like 15 different rap/hip-hop/R&B groups performed (I really only went to see Bone Thugs N Harmony, haha!). But I'd make an exception for Jake. Last year, we looked for an opportunity to go see him before our baby came along, and while he was going to be coming to Mesa, AZ, the concert was actually for a group of people, and he was just one of the performers. In November of last year, Jake was going to be playing solo in San Diego, so we were thinking about making a road trip and long weekend to see him. But we ended up not having enough days off and couldn't go. I was seriously bummed, because looking at his normal tour schedule, most of his stops are in Japan, Hawaii, and the really big cities on the mainland. I didn't know when our next chance to see him would be.

Then today, I happened to catch an ad on Facebook on the side that he was coming to the Rialto Theater downtown. I still can't believe it!! Tickets went on sale on 01/17, so we missed out on the best seats. Since neither Todd nor I have ever been to the Rialto, we didn't know if being closer up front but to the side ("gold" seats, whatever that means) was better than further back but closer to center. In the end, we opted for closer up so that there are less people to look over/through to see him, and we'll be close to the end so if (when) I have to pee, I can make an unobtrusive escape. =) Hopefully the acoustics will be fine out to the sides -- since they have so many bands and musicians perform at the theater, I'm not too worried about it.

I'm so excited that A) he's coming to Tucson to such an intimate venue, B) I won't be too close to my due date, and C) the baby will get to dance around to Jake live instead of just in my office!!! Eeee!!!
